On
July 30th, 1947 in the Austrian village of Thal, with
the population of 1,200, Gustav and Aurelia had their
second son, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
When
Arnold is 14 years old he meets Kurt Marnul, the manager
of Athletic Union Gym in Graz, Austria and he will be
his first trainer. In the spring of -63, at the age
of 15, Arnold competes in his first bodybuilding contest
at a hotel called Stierer Hof in Graz. He ends up second.
On
October 1st, 1965, Arnold begins his one year service
in the Austrian Army as a tank driver. One month later
he sneaks away from the Army to compete in the Junior
Mr. Europe in Stuttgart. He meets Franco Columbu, who
later will become his best friend along with Wag Bennet
and Rolf Putziger. Arnold won the competition and when
he comes back to the army he gets thrown in jail a few
nights for going AWOL.
The
next year Arnold wins the Mr. Europe title, best-built
man in Europe and International Powerlifting Championship
in the heavyweight division. At the NABBA Mr. Universe
in London, Arnold places second in the amateur tall
class and the British magazine "Health & Strength
first mention Arnold: "This 20-year-old Austrian
is typical of the huge improvement in European entries
in our (Mr.) Universe". In the fall Arnold gets
a job at Putzigers Gym in Munich Germany and one year
later he would own it.
In
March 1967, Arnold is on his first magazine cover, on
Health & Strength magazine and in August, he gets
his very first cover on an American magazine called
Muscular Development. The month later he won the amateur
NABBA Mr. Universe in London, becoming the youngest
man ever to win a Mr. Universe title.
In
the fall of '68, Arnold moves to Southern California
U.S. and the year after he begins writing under his
own byline in Weider's Muscle Builder magazine. He also
moved in with his friend Franco in Santa Monica, California,
and later they started a bricklaying business together
that they called "Pumping Bricks." In September
that year Arnold win 3 titles: IFBB Mr. Universe title
in New York, then places 2nd to Sergio Oliva in the
Mr. Olympia that same day. NABBA Mr. Universe in London
and Mr. Europe in West Germany.
In
1970 Arnold
stars in his very first film "Hercules in New York"
under the stage name of Arnold Strong. In September,
Arnold wins the AAU pro Mr. World in Columbus, Ohio,
and he meets Jim Lorimer for the first time, who later
directs the Arnold Classic which is also in Columbus.
He also wins his first IFBB Mr. Olympia title in New
York in October.
In
1972 Arnold starts general courses at Santa Monica City
College and later that year he meets George Butler for
the first time who almost immediately decided that Arnold
should be the main focus of the book and the movie tentatively
called "Pumping Iron."
On September 24th, Arnold wins the IFBB Mr. Olympia
title in Essen, Germany.

years after his movie debut, Arnolds second movie, "The
Long Goodbye", premiers and the following year
Charles
Gaines and George Butler's "Pumping Iron: The Art
& Sport of Bodybuilding" is published and well
received.
On
November 8th, 1975, Arnold wins his 6th IFBB Mr. Olympia
title in South Africa, then announces his retirement
from competitive Bodybuilding. 6 months later Arnold
stars in "Stay Hungary" with Jeff Bridges
and Sally Field, winning a Golden Globe award for best
acting debut.
In
the year when Arnold turns 30, the world's best-known
bodybuilding movie to date, "Pumping Iron"
is released and he first meets Maria Shriver at the
"Robert F. Kennedy Tennis Tournament" in Forest
Hills, New York.
In
the following years Arnold
stars in "The Villain" & "Conan the
Barbarian" and he also appears with Lari Anderson
in "The Jayne Mansfield Story" On TV and stars
in "The Comeback", a film about his years
training and Mr. Olympia competition. Arnold graduates
from University of Wisconsin in Superior with a general
business degree (individually designed) in international
marketing of physical fitness. He
wins his seventh IFBB Mr. Olympia in Australia in a
controversial return to bodybuilding. On September 16th
1982, Arnold becomes a U.S. Citizen at the Shrine Auditorium
in L.A.
Arnold
continue to appear in more action movies like in the
sequel to Conan - "Conan the Destroyer", "The
Terminator", "Red Sonja", "Commando",
"Raw Deal", "Predator" and "The
Running Man". In '85 Arnold and Maria Shriver announce
their engagement and the year after on April 26th, Arnold
weds Maria Shriver in Hyannis, Massachusetts with Franco
Columbo as his best man.
At
the age of 40, Arnold
stars in the comedy film "Twins" - his first
$100 million plus domestic grossing film and wins
the "Muscle and Fitness" poll as the best
bodybuilder of all time. Arnold sponsors the first Arnold
Classic in Columbus, Ohio, won by Rich Gaspari and in
Christmas -89, his and Marias first child Katherine
Eunice Schwarzenegger is born.
In the early 90's, Arnold is chosen by president George
Bush to head The President's Council on Physical Fitness
and Sports. Arnold directs an episode called "The
Switch" for TV's "Tales of The Crypt and he
also stars in "Total Recall", "Kindergarten
Cop" and "Terminator 2:Judgement Day"
who was the biggest grossing picture of the year. Sports
Illustrated reports that Arnold is the first civilian
to purchase a Humvee. Arnold paid 45,000 for the vehicle,
which he customized by having "Terminator"
painted on both sides. In the summer of -91, Christina
Maria Aurelia Schwarzenegger is born. In the fall the
first Planet Hollywood opens in New York City and Arnold
wins the Humanitarian Award by the American Sports casters
Association.
In
1992 Arnold opens his own restaurant, Schatzi on Main,
in Santa Monica, California, Schatzi meaning little
treasures in German. Arnold is recognized in Premier
magazine as the 10th most powerful person in Hollywood.
He directs a made-for-TV movie called "Christmas
in Connecticut" and visits Ohio, thus completing
his plan to visit all 50 states in connection with heading
The Presidents Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.
Joe Gold steps down as chairman of World Gym and gym
licensing, naming Arnold as his successor.
In
1993
Arnold is named International star of the decade by
the National Association of Theatre Owners. He is chosen
chairman of the California Governor's Council on Physical
Fitness and Sports and stars in "Last Action Hero".
In September, Arnold's 3rd child, Patrick Arnold Schwarzenegger,
is born.
The
following years he stars in "True Lies", "Junior",
"Eraser", "Jingle all the way" and
"Batman & Robin". "Entertainment
Tonight" reports that Arnold with 211 appearances,
is the most interviewed celebrity.
Arnold receives the IFBB Gold order in Columbus, Ohio
at the Arnold Classic Weekend, acknowledging him as
the greatest bodybuilder of the 20th century. He also
receives the National Association of Theatre owners'
1997 Humanitarian Award in Las Vegas and undergoes open
heart surgery to replace a faulty Aorta valve - a congenital
problem now fixed.
In
the year when Schwarzenegger turns 50, his second son
and fourth child, Christopher Sargent Schwarzenegger
is born. The following year Arnold
appears on Oprah to announce that his new bodybuilding
book would be out in December and is also honored for
holding a world record - "best developed man".
On
September 27th, 1999, Arnold launches his official website-
Schwarzenegger.com and on November 24th, End of Days
hits the theatres. One week later Arnold begins filming
"The 6th Day".
In
2000 "The 6th Day" premiers and he starts
shooting "Collateral Damage". It's was planned
to have it's premier on October 5th, 2001 but due to
the terrorist attack on September 11th, it will take
another 4 months before Collateral Damage premieres
on February 8th, 2002.
Now
in mid 2002, Arnold have a whole bunch of projects on
the way. Right now he is shooting T3: Rise of the Machines
and then it's True Lies 2, Westworld and another Conan
movie so it looks like Mr. Schwarzenegger will rule
the box office for a long time.
