Reported By: Randy Jennings Thursday, December 12, 2002 You don’t have to be an Arnold fan to know that the hottest topic on the web right now is that of King Conan: Crown of Iron! Excitement over the possible reunion of John Milius and Arnold Schwarzenegger is dominating ever entertainment site and film geeks are praying to the almighty CROM. Our very successful online petition, which ranked in PetitionOnline.com’s top 3 hottest petitions yesterday, is nearly set to break 5,000 signatures from just a few short days since our petition went online. Now that’s power! Word of our petition reached the top. TheArnoldFans got a call from a Hollywood legend who wanted to say thanks for our continued support. I just got off the phone with the director of my all-time favorite Arnold movie... Conan the Barbarian. John Milius and I had a nice long talk about how things are going with King Conan: Crown of Iron and we also discussed other Conan topics. It turns out everyone's favorite movie swords from Conan the Barbarian: the Atlantean and the Father's Sword are being entered into the Smithsonian Museum as the most recognized film swords of all of cinema’s history. The original Jody Samson created swords were appraised by the institute at nearly one million dollars for the combined two. Conan's sword appraised for more than $500,000.00 while the father's sword came in at a close $350,000.00! Crom! Of course this value is only for the original three TRUE swords (not the cast replicas and props). After asking Milius where he keeps his sword, he informed me his two are being prepped for the Smithsonian by “Albion Armorers” but he does have one great prop at his home: Thorgrim’s Hammer is actually used as a doorstop! Speaking of swords; I learned of the all new Conan sword to be featured in the possible King Conan. An older Conan’s weapon of choice would be an axe but Milius would like to discuss with the designers how to work in an axe to be lightweight enough for an actor but to have the great presence and size like the classic Frazetta axes. The NEW Conan sword is already designed and has a title. Are you ready Conan fans? It’s called... The Aqualonean Spatha! And what of the reunion with other Conan character favorites? As TheArnoldfans.com mentioned last year in the “King Conan: Crown of Iron” script review, we would see Sandahl Bergman return, not as Valeria, but as a tavern-owner - striking an amazing resemblance. Mako, the wizard, is also called for but there is currently no return of Subotai played by Gerry Lopez. However, Milius informed me he would consider giving Gerry a spot if the surf pro would like, but the role would really have to work. Maybe along Conan’s journey’s he comes across an old king? “Maybe as an old Mongrel king” Milius told TheArnoldfans. What of the new cast? I asked Milius who would play Conan’s son Kon and naturally (and thankfully) there was no talk of Vin Diesel. Milius does like The Rock but doesn’t see him as Kon either but rather has his eye on another wrestler he feels is more suitable. Although casting is quite far off, Milius likes the qualities he sees in the wrestler known as Triple X. Milius even has locations picked out he’d like for shooting such as Turkey and Croatia. He is always planning and advances without threat of possible film-project-termination. John Milius shows so much passion for his project that he obviously dreams Conan and whenever possible is visualizing a scene he will shoot SOMEDAY. Milius is Conan! He is a true barbarian – but like Conan, a GOOD barbarian and one you’d always be by his side ready to fight his battles. Will Warner Brothers and Paradox Entertainment listen to the thousands of TRUE Conan fans? Will King Conan actually become a reality? Let’s just say that Milius believes that petitions and the voice of Conan fans can be heard. If we all take Conan’s side in this ultimate battle, we shall be victorious. WB execs, who question if a King Conan would be marketable, must do the research NOW to understand the hype and fanbase that follows the Conan character. They must come to realize there is just as much hype or maybe more over a King Conan than a T3: Rise of the Machines? We all know T3 will be HUGE at the box office and King Conan can match the success given the chance. Finally we ask too of Arnold to step up to the plate and listen to the fans. Our polls ALWAYS show King Conan as Schwarzenegger’s most anticipated film project! Please do this one for the fans Arnold! In closing, I’d like to thank Milius for the call. But I also DAMN him for telling me a bit about the new script. I was thrilled enough with the old 168 page script but from what he teased me with about the new one, I will lose sleep every night in anticipation of waiting to see it materialize on the big screen. I wasn’t aware that the script had drastically changed so much but I’ve learned quite a few new surprises and these make it that much more awesome! DAMN you WB and Paradox if you tear this brilliant script from Milius’ cold hand. But don’t let us damn you. Let us praise you. Help bring King Conan: Crown of Iron to the big screen and we will forever honor you. You decide; do you want happy fans or raged/unforgiving ones?
