What tools would a villain need to rule Gotham City, then the world? Mr. Freeze quickly learned that a clever criminal mind would not be enough to prevent the caped crusader of Gotham from terminating his plans of destruction. To reach his menacing goal, Mr. Freeze would need an arsenal of vehicles & weapons of mass destruction. Quickly Mr. Freeze went to work in his underground ice cream factory lab, and this is what he created... The Freezmobile "Batman & Robin" producers were faced with a question: What would the biggest & baddest villain ever to cross Gotham City claim as his vehicle of destruction... a Toyota? Hell no! The coldest & cleverest of criminals needs nothing more than a tank! Enter the Freezemobile, and it's an icy terror on wheels! This vehicle has been made for one person only and that's MR. FREEZE Barbare Ling, the creator behind the Freezemobile, knew that the size of the vehicle needed a gigantic, powerful look in relation to Mr. Freeze's large armor-wear. After completing the design sketches (and making sure the physics were possible) it was time to create Arnold's stormy contraption! The Freezemobile was constructed in a full-size scale in just nine weeks. To adhere to safety concerns, it was designed to run on an electric power source versus its heat and fuel counterparts. Towering nine feet high and pushing 26 feet of length, the Freezemobile matched the size of most motorhomes. Able to reach speeds up to 50 miles per hour, and wheels the size of industrial tractors, this icy tank had a very menacing presence! Other Vehicles Along with the Freezemobile, Ling also designed the vehicles for Mr. Freeze's henchmen. Two squared tank-like versions of the Freezemobile covered with pounded metaland outfitted with machine guns were built in quarter-scale miniatures by the visual effects department. For financial reasons, these were not built in full-scale sizes. The Freeze Capsule was also created by Barbara Ling, based on some past rocket designs, including an early NASA missile. When Barbara finally completed the design, VFX supervisor Eric Durst and his team begin constructing a miniature version (in quarter-scale) and a full-scale as well. The Cyro Gun This is the way to chill a BAT for good! After using every gun you can possibly imagine, Arnold gets the opportunity to carry a new kind of weapon, the CRYO gun. Able to freeze its target within seconds of detonation, this gun was designed to be much larger than typical weapons, nearing the size of a rocket launcher! Although appearances might make you believe that the Cyro Gun was tremendously heavy, the gun was created with hollow alloys, and was very light to the touch! Copyright ©2000 The ARNOLD FANS.
