Over a month ago we informed many Arnold and Terminator fans that Linda Hamilton would attend the the Chiller Theater Toy, Model, and Film Expo in Parsippany, NJ. While many celebrities backed out of the event held this last weekend, Sarah Connor held her ground and battled the long lines of adoring fans.
Rick Henriques(CromIsGod), long-time TheArnoldFans writer of many East Coast interviews, represented us once again. Rick met with Linda and spoke with the Terminator star for a few minutes as well as the actor who played the lead villain in Kindergarten Cop. Arnold fan Anthony Maurizio, who also met Hamilton, told TheArnoldFans that his images and full report is on the way. Linda told him "We'll see" when it came to his question of a "Terminator Salvation" Sarah Connor sighting.
For now, read below for Rick's report. Rick “Cromisgod” Henriques writes:
We all know what happens when a chill hits the air, the leaves begin to change color and the ghosts and ghouls begin to make their way to the streets. It’s October so it’s time for the Chiller Theatre show in New Jersey. Let me begin with some disappointments: I go to the show every year, sometimes twice a year, but this year I was extra excited because they started to rack up some big name like: Burt Reynolds, Richard Dreyfuss and Lou Gossett Jr. My disappointment was that all of them cancelled their appearances. Not only that, but they cancelled after the deadline to buy tickets online. A little shady if you ask me. My other disappointment I’ll share in a bit.
I did my usual and made my way down to Jersey at about 7:30am with my dad and girlfriend Michelle in tow (it was Michelle’s first time to Chiller). I stood in the initial line to get my wristband and made my way over to the line for the main autograph section. It was not too long and we got into “the pit” right around 10:00am. The celebrities were their usual late selves and we had to wait for most of them to show up until around 10:30am. The first autograph I got was of William Forsythe (he was in the Devil’s Rejects, one of my favorite horror movies). He was a really nice guy and we chatted about how Steven Segal will never work in mainstream Hollywood again. HA (They were in Out for Justice together).
Ok, so here is the story you all probably want: How awesome was Linda Hamilton? How was Sarah Connor? Was she the greatest? Well, let me start with my second disappointment. These celebrities are charging WAY too much for autographs. Five years ago it was $20.00 and they would be happy to take a picture with you. Now they all charge $30.00-$35.00 and an extra $10.00-$20.00 for a picture with them. It was absurd. Linda was no different, charging $30.00 for auto’s with inscriptions and pics being extra. Overall she was a really nice lady. She auto’ed my Terminator movie poster with her name and the quote “Come with me if you want to live”. I took my picture with her too and it came out pretty good. I did think that is was a little strange that she kissed almost all the male auto seekers right on the mouth after each picture.
The real thrill came in meeting Richard Tyson, AKA Cullen Crisp from Kindergarten Cop. This was truly a nice guy and was only charging $20.00 for a picture to sign, autograph and picture with him. I got the chance to ask him a few questions about our favorite Austrian Oak:
Rick: “Can you tell me any funny stories about you and Arnold from the set?”
Richard Tyson: “HA. (with a cool Texas drawl) One day we had a press day so there were a lot of people there taking pictures. We were filming the scene when Arnold was singing the Old McDonald song dressed up as a cowboy. He sang it all messed up with his accent and the press roared with applause like he did this fantastic job. They had to reload some film so we stopped for a bit. Arnold came over to me and said, “Boy they really thought that was funny. I must have sang it great”. He had this big grin on his face. I looked right at him and said, “Arnold, that sucked” If you could have seen the look on his face. He was shocked. They had to shoot it like 5 more times, because he wanted it to be perfect."
Rick: “Wow, Arnold really gets the star treatment huh?”
Richard Tyson: "You aint kidding. I said to him once that they treated him like a star on set and he just smiled and puffed on a big ole cigar. He was a real character. A true professional though.”
So all in all my Chiller experience was ok. I got a few more auto’s like Corey Haim, Ralph Macchio and Martin Kove. What I’m really looking forward to is the Monster Mania Convention next June in Cromwell, Connecticut. That is literally two seconds from my house. Will I be writing a story about my travels to that convention……ah, but that is another story.
Finally, Arnold fan James Hannon, sharing a picture of Hamilton signing a "Children of the Corn" poster writes:
Hi TAFs staff, you are welcome to use my picture if you want. There was a really long line to see her, and I already had spent almost 5 hours on line that day - 3 for Ace Frehley of Kiss, and two to get into "the Pit" where the bigger name actors (including Linda) were located.
If anyone else had a Linda Hamilton encounter to share with us, please send us an email. We'll keep you informed of other upcoming convention celebrity signings. We hope Hamilton attends Wonder Con and Comic Con in 2009! NO FATE!
