Due to the mediocre reviews of Terminator Salvation, this film without Schwarzenegger in a lead role may spell certain doom for the franchise. Unless McG spends some serious time creating an excellent director's cut DVD, anticipation for Terminator 5 could be soured. However, what might revive the franchise even more is the upcoming "Termination" animated project. Much like The Matrix's animated project Animatrix and Batman: Gotham Knight, "Termination" will be several short stories in different animated styles by different writers. TheArnoldFans spoke recently with the three biggest names attached to this project who answered a few of my questions.

TheArnoldFans: Will you both be involved much in the DVD and to see what goes into it, including deleted scenes?
Producers Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek: For sure, we want that DVD to be as robust as possible so we're going to load it and we may put Machinima, that 90 minute film they made out of the video game, on there so there's a lot of little pieces to be included on that release.
TheArnoldFans: Have you talked to Arnold about the possibility of bringing him on for T5?
Producers: We're always talking to Arnold and he continues to be a huge ambassador for this franchise and we certainly would like to have that opportunity.
TheArnoldFans: What’s the latest with the “Termination” Animation project? Is this still being worked on?
Producers: It is being worked on. There's not much I can say right now on it but IT IS in development. We're working insidiously to get comfortable around something that we think is the right piece to share with everyone.

James Middleton, executive producer of Terminator 3 and The Sarah Connor Chronicles also gave me the scoop on the progress of the animated Termination.
Middleton told me he's very excited about this in-development Terminator project. In fact he gave TAFs the news that he also wrote a few of the stories himself that he hopes to have turned into animated fan favorites. Will Arnold's likeness and model be featured in the project? "That's certainly something we're looking into", I was told. Don't look for a release anytime soon however, it may be late 2010 when it's released. More information to follow at next month's Comic Con, including the possibilities on picking up some free promotional Termination swag.
Thanks to all who talked to TheArnoldFans about Termination. I'm certainly more excited right now for this animated project over a Terminator 5. Unless James Cameron and Arnold make a comeback for T5, I'm not sure if the hype for another film will ever be back. But who wouldn't love some all new Terminator animated stories...with some possible "Arniemation"!
