Stallone Says Arnold’s Eyes “Light Up” for Acting!

On Friday the 13th of August 2010, a battle began, a battle to preserve the distinctions between manly men and girly men. This weekend moviegoers were faced with a choice between Stallone’s hyper-masculine “The Expendables” packed with over-the-top fantastic action sequences and complimentary one-liners and Julia Roberts nut shrinking, testosterone level sapping, pukefest “Eat Pray Love”. With the battle lines drawn so clearly at the box office, this weekend’s moviegoers would cast their votes for which direction they think the entertainment industry should go. Do we tell Hollywood to make us more movies about muscular gun-toting ass kicking machines going on spectacular killing sprees for some reason that probably doesn’t matter too much to us, or more movies about recently divorced women going on quests for self-discovery (insert gagging sound here).

With the stakes so high, the consequences of losing a battle so severe, the nerves of even the most combat hardened soldiers would be shaken. But not the nerves of the soldiers in this army, our army, the army of manly men. On 08/13/2010, many of us heard the call to battle and rose to the occasion by showing up in droves to the opening of “The Expendables” powering it to the top of the box office and delivering “Eat Pray Love” a humiliating defeat. Preliminary weekend box office estimates currently have “The Expendables” landing north of $35 M while “Eat Pray Love” comes in at a distant second with less than $24 M.
With this resounding victory, we manly men spoke loudly and clearly. We don’t want the script to tell us how tough an action hero is, we want to know it just by looking at him. GIVE US BACK OUR MANLY HEROS! Although many reviews are saying it's "One of the worst movies ever made but a must-see film", we can all agree that it is an event film with the level of talent involved.

The manliness of this action-packed movie cannot be overstated. TAFs doesn’t want to spoil anything for those of you that have not had the opportunity to see the film yet, but it suffices to say that it is jam-packed with absolutely mind-blowing action scenes. Additionally it features nearly the entire action movie royal family, including The King himself. And as if getting Schwarzenegger to appear in the film wasn’t a brilliantly ballsy enough move on Stallone’s part, he amped it up a notch by giving Arnold’s character a name with a hidden bad ass meaning. In Arnold’s scene, Sly’s character Barney refers to him as Trench Mauser. Mauser is a German arms manufacturer of a line of bolt-action rifles and pistols from the 1870s to present. Their designs were built for the German armed forces, but have been exported and licensed to a number of countries since the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, as well as being a popular civilian firearm.
Stallone’s successful testosterone-filled stand for 80’s style action films not only repelled an assault on our masculinity; it hopefully whetted Arnold’s appetite for making action movies. Arnold tweeted about having a blast with the cast of “The Expendables” and partied with Stallone after filming.

Furthermore, Stallone said the following about Arnold filming his scene in “The Expendables” in an interview with MTV News’ Josh Horowitz, "I saw his eyes light up. It's one thing to run a state, but it's another thing to get back to what you're really known for." The full article can be found HERE.
With this victory, we are now poised to go on the offensive and reestablish the intimidating heavily muscled hero in action movies just in time for Arnold to relinquish his governing duties and reclaim his throne as The King of action movies. While we wait for The Oak’s final term as Governator to end, we celebrate this triumph and enjoy the sound of the lementation of the women.
