Normally we love to report on good or exciting news, but unfortunately this week we have some sad news. Fans from around the world are saddened by the loss of two Terminator icons who were part of the Terminator Universe: Andy Vajna & Dick Miller.
Andrew G. Vajna, born August 1st, 1944 in Budapest, Hungary, helped create Carolco films, which created many blockbuster Schwarzenegger hits such as Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Total Recall. Later, Andy would collaborate again with Mario Kassar producing Terminator 3: Rise of The Machines back in 2003 right before Schwarzenegger ran for governor.
Andy Vajna was also a reformer of the Hungarian film funding system. His vision and goal was to make the Hungarian film industry very successful. For six months in 2018, Arnold Schwarzenegger has been filming the new Terminator and Andy helped push for filming in Hungary and helped production in many ways.
Andy passed away January 20th 2019 with a long-term illness in Budapest.
Arnold Schwarzenegger tweeted: “Andy Vajna was a dear friend in the revolutionary force in Hollywood. He proved that you don’t need studios to make huge movies like Terminator 2 or Total Recall. He had a huge heart, and he was one of the most generous guys around. I’ll miss him. My thoughts are with his family.”
Today, Andy Vajna was laid to rest at a private funeral attended by Hungarian PM Orban and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The government decided to pay for all funeral expenses for the Hungarian producer. Arnold spoke at the funeral and said in his speech that Dino De Laurentis said it's extremely important that we have three things which are the three Cs. "What do you mean by the three cs," he asked. Brain (Cervello), Heart (Cuore) and The Balls. Andy Vajna had the three Cs.
Dick Miller, another legend from the Terminator universe passed away just yesterday. Miller, born December 25th, 1928, was best known for his roles in movies such as the Gremlins, A Bucket of Blood, The Burbs, Fame, and the Terminator. Miller played the gun salesman at the Alamo Sports & Guns Shop and shared great on-screen chemistry with Arnold’s cyborg character. Miller was 90 years old and is survived by his film fans all over the world.
