Ready runners? It's ShowTime! It's time to run and luckily there will be no stalkers coming after you. No, this is not a futuristic sadistic game; it's for a good cause - supporting the Olympics. Not only can you support the torchbearing runners but you might just get lucky enough to see Arnold Schwarzenegger near you!

The scores of people who will carry the Olympic Torch through California this week have already run the distance in ways both incredible and modest. They have survived rare illnesses, founded charitable groups, rescued the injured, lived long and been just plain nice to others.

Along the way, a few celebrities such as astronaut Sally Ride, Olympic gold medallist Rafer Johnson and Arnold Schwarzenegger will join their ranks as the relay winds its way through California streets--from San Diego through Newport Beach, on to Los Angeles and north to San Luis Obispo. As they run, walk or roll wheelchairs down the road beginning Monday and ending Thursday, the torchbearers intend to hold high the flame that unites them.

When the torch passes through Los Angeles, the public is invited to three-city sponsored celebrations Tuesday. Spectators should plan on gathering about 11 a.m. at Olvera Street, 2 p.m. at the Coliseum and 7 p.m. at Universal CityWalk.

If you live in L.A. you can see Arnold for yourself...just be sure to tell TAF all about it!

Universal City, Ca. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mayor James Hahn and thousands of fans will cheer the arrival of the Olympic Torch as Olympic gold medallist Rafer Johnson carries it into Universal CityWalk in a spirited ceremony featuring youth choirs, interactive sporting games and CityWalk's famed street performers on Tuesday, January 15, 2002 from 7 - 9 p.m.

Celebrating the Olympic spirit, thousands of people will gather to witness the final leg of the Los Angeles torch run and the lighting of the Olympic cauldron by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Prior to reaching CityWalk, the torch route will pass through numerous Los Angeles landmarks, including Olvera Street and the Los Angeles Coliseum. The Salt Lake 2002 Torch Relay pays tribute to the indomitable spirit of the country. The flame, which was lit in Olympia, Greece, is traveling 13,500 miles across the United States, reaching 46 states in 65 days, carried by 11,500 torchbearers on its way to the largest Olympic Winter Games in history.
