In an exclusive interview with UK magazine, DVD MONTHLY, Paul Verhoeven was asked what was happening with his long-touted Arnold project CRUSADE! Disappointingly It appears the film will NEVER be made.

DVD MONTHLY: "Is Crusade ever likely to happen?"
Verhoeven: "Well, I don't know - certainly to talk about this movie at the moment, where the Crusader's are going to fight the Arab's and kill them all... including the Jews, because that was the theme of the movie... because it was a slaughterhouse organized by the Pope. In the political situation we are in now, I mean an army of Crusaders... even the word Crusaders, which was used by Bush in the beginning he had to take back, when he said "This is a crusade against terrorism", he had to take the word crusade out of the speeches, because it remembered the Arabs and the slaughterhouse that the Crusades were. So the movie was reflective of that situation, it was not like this is a great thing we did. At the end of the movie, Arnold's character, Hagen, would turn his back on the Crusades out of disgust. That was the story, so I don't think we're going to make that, you know?(Laughs)".

So it seems, in the current political climate, we'll never see Crusade being made. We can only pray or hope Arnold's son becomes an actor 20 years from now.

Thanks to Darren for the scoop!
