SCHWARZENEGGER WINS THE GOLD! Arnold damages the B.O. competition! Reported By: Randy Jennings Monday, February 11, 2002 Although the Winter Olympics took a huge bite out of this weekend's box office earnings, Arnold Schwarzenegger's Collateral Damage still managed to win the gold medal - beating out the other competitors such as "Big Fat Liar", winning the silver, and the pathetic "Rollerball", coming in to accept the bronze. Even though "Collateral Damage" did only slightly better on its opening weekend than Arnold's last movie, "The 6th Day," the fans have spoken and consider this one a huge comeback film for Arnold. So far 99% of our readers on our message boards say this is Arnold's best film since "True Lies"! With so much enthusiasm and satisfaction generated, not only amongst Arnold fans but from the audience reaction, it should surely mean this film will do well in weeks to come. 1. Collateral Damage - $15.2M, $15.2M 2. Big Fat Liar - $11.7M, $11.7M 3. Rollerball - $9.0M, $9.0M 4. Black Hawk Down - $8.0M, $86.7M 5. Snow Dogs - $6.7M, $59.5M 6. Count of Monte Cristo - $6.3M, $32.3M 7. A Beautiful Mind - $5.8M, $112.8M 8. A Walk to Remember - $5.7M, $30.5M 9. The Mothman Prophecies - $4.9M, $28.0M 10. I Am Sam - $4.5M, $23.8M Male viewers, mostly aged 25 and older, made up 60 percent of the audience for the R-rated film, said Dan Fellman, president of distribution at Warner Bros. But he was heartened that women liked the film as much as the men. After three weeks at No. 1, the grim military drama "Black Hawk Down" (Columbia) fell to No. 4 with $8 million, taking its total to $86.7 million. New releases next weekend, when business will be boosted by the Presidents Day holiday on Monday, include the Bruce Willis World War Two drama "Hart's War," the Denzel Washington thriller "John Q," the Britney Spears road movie "Crossroads" and the Disney cartoon "Return to Neverland". Where will Collateral Damage place in the box office next weekend? That's up to you Arnold fans and your pledge to follow "The EIGHT STEPS"! ---------- |
