Translated from their site:
Since there are many big explosions in Collateral Damage, the actors had to be prepared for scenes involving fire. To make sure the actors were well trained and the authenticity of the scenes would be guaranteed, Captain Stephen Ruda from the LA Fire Department was hired to help.

One of Captain Stephen Ruda's most difficult tasks was to make sure Arnold and the other actors knew everything about tactics and strategy when you're fighting against the fire and how to act when you're in such a situation as a fireman. He showed them how to handle the equipment and how to make a good exit so nobody gets harmed during a fire. His other task was to be sure the uniforms and equipment was as realistic as possible.

Captain Ruda also received the script so he could make sure these dangerous movie situations would match with the reality, since the communication is very important for a fireman. Some other details Ruda added to the scenes is to show that fireman risk their lives to save someone else's life! Even in a house which is covered with flames they won't stop till everybody's safe.

Schwarzenegger said he was stunned by the fact that fireman have to be so fit and in such a great condition. "When you get all the equipment attached to your body you're adding 25 pounds to your body. The belt, oxygen tanks, masks and all the rest of the equipment are slowing down your speed, but fireman have to be in great condition to run through the fire, up and down stairs, still wearing all their equipment. That's what really amazes me. Of course I had to do a couple of scenes in which I walk through fire, which was controlled, but in real life these guys don't have time to communicate or think. I really admire that!"

Captain Ruda really appreciated Arnold's understanding and help. "He was so interested and he learned as much as he could to make his role look as good and real as possible. I am sure the Fireman will be very proud of Captain Gordy Brewer."
