GIANT ENDO SCULPTURE IN GRAZ? Will women and children embrace endo? Reported By: Randy Jennings Sunday, August 11, 2002 A tribute to Arnold Schwarzenegger - Calls for Terminator Monument in Schwarzenegger's Austrian hometown. A well-known Austrian avant-garde art forum, calls for a spectacular Terminator monument to be erected in Arnold Schwarzenegger's Austrian hometown Graz. The proposed monument which has been drafted by two Russian artists is supposed to be 25 meters high, expected costs range up to 5 million euros. "The Terminator is an extremely important figure in global pop culture", artists Vladislav Efimov and Aristarkh Chernyshev from Moscow claim, "not only in the so-called West, but also in Russia. And Graz, the beloved hometown of the Hollywood actor who played T-800 for the first time in James Cameron's movie "The Terminator" back in 1984, would be a brilliant choice for the erection of such a Terminator monument." Plenty of reasons for a Terminator monument can also be found in the local context. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is usually nicknamed "Big Arnie" by local media, has, for instance, never been officially honoured as the extremely successful actor and artist he is in Austria, but mainly as a sportsman, when the main soccer stadium in Graz was renamed "Arnold-Schwarzenegger-Stadium" some 5 years ago. Furthermore, in 2003 Graz will be the "Cultural Capital of Europa", an honorary title awarded annually by the European Commission. By a striking coincidence "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" will be released that same year once again starring Graz's most important 'cultural export commodity' Arnold Schwarzenegger. Therefore, why not combine both events?
