TAFs REVIEWS "DAMAGE" DVD + DELETED SCENES! "Damage": The all-time underrated Oak film? Reported By: Randy Jennings Friday, July 12, 2002 A few weeks back Warner Brothers was kind enough to send TheArnoldFans.com Collateral Damage on DVD to review for the strongest community of Arnold fans. To win a copy for your very own CLICK HERE! Enough talk! Let's stop screwing around because I'm going to come right out and say it; Any movie-goer who did not enjoy Schwarzenegger's Collateral Damage is someone who obviously cannot think for themselves. They allow the media to brainwash their weak minds and once the negative reviews are out there by the "critics", there is no changing their Kuato-sealed minds. Any basher of "Collateral Damage" are most-likely the same people who hated Last Action Hero (another underrated yet fantastic film). I can guarantee you that if Harrison Ford starred in "Collateral Damage" the critics would have LOVED it and that this would have been a huge hit at the box office if it weren't for the brainwashed. But when was the last time the majority of the critics praised an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie? "Twins or "Total Recall" maybe? They sure didn't care for "T2", "True Lies" or even "Eraser" (some of The Oak's biggest fan-favorites). Critics will not rest until they see Arnold banished from the future of film making and, once again, I will guarantee you that T3 will get mostly bad reviews. Why? Because critics hate Arnold despite what audiences say and despite the probability that T3 will be one hell of an excellent film. With that said, let Kuato back into the room and have him take a hold of your hands. Ahhh, now open your mind and release the critic's conspired reviews. Release it and watch Collateral Damage in an all new light. You will no doubt join the majority of Arnold fans who felt it was a VERY WELL made movie and also one of Arnold's best acting performance to date. A perfect movie? No, but still damn entertaining and one to make any Arnold fan proud! Naturally we would prefer our Arnold in futuristic movies or time period movies like "With Wings as Eagles" or "Crusade" - but as a modern political thriller - it delivers! Warner Home Video presents "Collateral Damage" in its original widescreen aspect ratio in a transfer that is enhanced for 16x9 TV sets. The picture is crystal clear. The level of detail is excellent AND because the image is smaller on our screen the effects look better than ever and all the CG shots now look much more convincing! For me, the thing that excites me most about DVDs is the deleted scene feature. "Collateral Damage" does not disappoint here as we are given MANY new scenes with Arnold and a couple we could only dream were NEVER REMOVED from the film. DELETED SCENES: 1. Station Chief Brandt Outlines Agenda: Deserves to bet cut. Agent Brandt explains his "no-holds bared tactics with his boys in the fields." We gain nothing from this scene. 2. Alternate Intro to Selena & Mauro: A wise choice to reshoot. Actress Neri is VERY hard to understand here and the situation is not as intense. We do see Brewer playing a carnival game however and see how good the Oak's pitching arm is! 3. Alternate to the Snake Scene: A much needed reshoot! The original scene only had the irresponsible guerilla get a slap in the face with a rolled magazine. The final shot shoving the snake into his mouth truly shows the ruthlessness of a terrorist. 4. The Night Before The Attack: Here is one scene that should have been left in. In a slow motion montage, we see two opposite sides: guerilla women and children playing and laughing cut in with scenes of Brandt's agents preparing for war - as they load the helicopter firepower. 5. Witnessing The Aftermath of the Attack: This was probably the one deleted scene Davis fought most for to have it kept in but studio execs do demand that reduced screen time. After the attack, bodies from the camp are everywhere. Many were lying side by side as if executed one at a time while dozens of other bodies of women and children lay in a burning bombed hut. This is one of the most serious scenes Collateral Damage would have brought us as it's very emotional yet appropriate for the film's seriousness. Brewer looks over at a joyful agent Brant who even gives his men a "thumbs up". Brewer looks at Brant in disgust. 6. The Flight Back to Washington D.C.: Contains much Arnold but it is not necessary. A wise cut. On a shaky plane, in an empty cargo we see Brandt, Brewer, Mauro and Selena. Other than listening to repeated dialogue we see Selena appear to snuggle up next to Brewer for comfort. Other features include a commentary track by director Andrew Davis. Also part of the release is "The Hero In A New Era," an 8 minute behind-the-scenes featurette that features clips form the film montaged with interview footage. We get more! Why this is not called a "Special Edition" is beyond me! We get the film's trailer, Filmographies and also the HBO featurette: Collateral Damage: Behind the Scenes! You'll love this DVD and this Arnold action-packed thriller if you open your mind. Open your mind. Open your mind. Open your mind... ---------- |
