RIDLEY SCOTT TO DIRECT "CRUSADES"! Scott's "Crusade" backstabs Arnold! Reported By: Randy Jennings Monday, March 4, 2002 Variety reports that "Gladiator", "Black Hawk Down" & "Blade Runner" director Ridley Scott has targeted the religious Crusades of the 11th century for a period epic he hopes to direct in 2003. As exciting as this sounds at first, it actually appears that this is a completely new Crusade script that has nothing to do with Arnold's involvement. The horror! 20th Century Fox has hired screenwriter William Monahan to create a film about the Crusades, when Christians were directed by the Church to forcefully spread their faith across Europe and into Jerusalem. The Crusades, which began in the 11th century, will provide a highly visual canvas for a drama featuring armor-clad warriors who bore red crosses on their breastplates and battled with spears, swords and shields, adds the trade. Why in the world would Scott chose not to work with Walon Green's Crusade script - that has been a legend in Hollywood as the greatest script never produced? Why isn't Scott having someone just retooling this script instead of getting an all new writer and stealing Arnold's thunder? Ridley Scott has some serious explaining to do, otherwise we will all be aware that Arnold's/Walon Green's Crusade script will be history. After Scott told Monahan he wanted to do a film about the Crusades, Monahan came back with a strong storyline, and Fox made the deal. Scott hopes to begin the Crusades film by the winter. The ARNOLD FAN will keep you posted as Crusade news develops and as Ridley Scott kisses Arnold's but with explanations! We're waiting Ridley! ---------- |
