ARNOLD SPEAKS OUT FOR LIGHTS ON! Schwarzenegger at Staples Center! Reported By: Randy Jennings Tuesday, October 15, 2002 On Oct. 10th, in Los Angeles, actor and children's advocate Arnold Schwarzenegger joined Mayor James Hahn, actress Rhea Perlman, Afterschool Alliance Executive Director Judy Y. Samelson, leaders from LA's BEST afterschool program and thousands of children at a citywide rally at the Staples Center. "It is essential that our national community come together to support after-school programs," said Arnold. "These programs enrich students and support families. I have seen first hand the incredible difference it makes when a child has a safe place to go after the school day ends and "Lights On Afterschool!" provides an invaluable resource for children during the hours after school when they are most susceptible to negative influences."
