On Oct. 10th, in Los Angeles, actor and children's advocate Arnold Schwarzenegger joined Mayor James Hahn, actress Rhea Perlman, Afterschool Alliance Executive Director Judy Y. Samelson, leaders from LA's BEST afterschool program and thousands of children at a citywide rally at the Staples Center.

"It is essential that our national community come together to support after-school programs," said Arnold. "These programs enrich students and support families. I have seen first hand the incredible difference it makes when a child has a safe place to go after the school day ends and "Lights On Afterschool!" provides an invaluable resource for children during the hours after school when they are most susceptible to negative influences."

"Lights On Afterschool! is a perfect opportunity for Americans to show their support for afterschool programs. On October 10, at 5,000 events across the country, Americans will send the message that families all over the nation are in need of quality afterschool programs. I am proud to serve as National Chair of this important event. Lights On Afterschool! is about keeping our kids safe and helping them succeed in school and in life."
