ARNOLD'S TAKING ACTION ON BEHALF OF KIDS! Yes on Proposition 49 ad airing now! Reported By: JoinArnold.com Thrusday, September 5, 2002 Los Angeles - Opening the campaign’s final stretch, Citizens for After School Programs / Yes on Proposition 49 began airing television ads Tuesday across the state. The ads promote Proposition 49 on November’s ballot, the initiative that will provide grants to schools to create after school programs that keep kids safe, provide recreational opportunities, and educational enrichment. The ad campaign begins with two commercials (a 60 second and 30 second spot) both of which feature action hero Arnold Schwarzenegger in his favorite role to date - taking action on behalf of kids. Teachers, students and law enforcement leaders, including Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona and Sacramento County Sheriff Lou Blanas, also appear in the ads. “Proposition 49 will get kids off the streets… and into a safe, supervised educational environment,” says Arnold Schwarzenegger in one ad. “The most effective way to reduce juvenile crime is to have after school programs available to young people,” adds Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona. “Studies show that after school programs increase student attendance, improve homework habits, and raise test scores,” says Sandra Fink, a representative of the California Teachers Association. Proposition 49 ads will air on broadcast and cable stations across the state from September 3rd through the election. Proposition 49, the After School Education and Safety Act, will make available quality after school programs for every elementary school and middle school in California that wants one, without a tax increase. It is funded in 2004 or later, as soon as the natural growth of state revenues makes funds available. Nearly every California law enforcement organization has endorsed the measure on crime prevention and safety grounds. Arnold Schwarzenegger, the initiative’s architect and sponsor, started his career helping kids in 1990 as Chairman of the President's Council on Physical Fitness. He is also a worldwide Ambassador for the Special Olympics. A decade ago, he co-founded and became Chairman of an after school program called the Inner-City Games, which now serves over half a million kids in 15 cities nationwide. More recently, he formed Arnold’s All Stars, another after school program focusing on middle schools. ---------- |
