Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger and his wife Maria Shriver will be honored as 2002 Caritas Award recipients on Saturday, Oct. 26, at Saint John's Health Center's Caritas Award Gala. The gala will support essential community services and programs provided by the Health Center's Emergency Department while honoring Shriver and Schwarzenegger for their dedication and commitment to serving the community. The 10th annual black-tie event begins at 7 p.m. at the Regent Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills.

The Caritas Award Gala is coordinated by Saint John's Health Center Foundation and the Irene Dunne Guild, co-chaired this year by Kris Gibello and Carla Hummer, both of Pacific Palisades. The guild is a Saint John's support group founded in 1987 in honor of the late actress Irene Dunne.

Past Caritas Award recipients include Jimmy Stewart, former First Lady Nancy Reagan, Angela Lansbury, Robert Wagner, Saint John's President Sister Marie Madeleine, Gretchen and Michael Wayne, Vin Scully and Martin Sheen. With a membership of 90 women, the Irene Dunne Guild provides a variety of volunteer services and philanthropic support to Saint John's, including the creation of the "Angels of the ER" program to provide non-medical assistance to emergency room patients and their families. The year-round program is staffed by guild members and community volunteers.

Tickets to the 2002 Caritas Award Gala are $375 each. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. For more information or to obtain tickets, please call Cookie Galanti at Saint John's Health Center at (310) 829-8423.
