ARNOLD ACCEPTS CITY OF ANGELS AWARD! Mayor Jim Hahn honors Arnold Reported By: Schwarzenegger.com Tuesday, February 25, 2003 Schwarzenegger.com reports that Mayor Jim Hahn honored Arnold with the Helen Bernstein Award for his efforts to increase educational opportunities for Los Angeles' children. "Arnold Schwarzenegger's dedication to improving the lives of children, particularly through after-school programs, is endless," said Mayor Hahn. "I am proud to present Arnold with a City of Angels Award on behalf of the Getty House Foundation." The Helen Bernstein award was created in memory of Ms. Bernstein, who was former president of United Teachers-Los Angeles and education advisor to former Mayor Richard Riordan. Arnold was recognized, in part, for his sponsorship of the voter approved Proposition 49, which makes state grants available to every public middle school in California to create quality after-school programs. He was also recognized for his establishment of Arnold's All-Stars, an organization dedicated to providing specially designed after-school programs offering academic, recreational and cultural enrichment programs for every middle school in the State of California.
