A "TERMINATOR" WOOD-CARVER'S DREAM! Ponath creates the ultimate tribute! Reported By: Chad Donohue Tuesday, July 15, 2003 Guido Ponath is an artist currently living in Colorado, USA, and specializing in woodcarving. Among his most unique and wild works of art is a large "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" sculpture of the Terminator firing a rifle while hanging from a crane hook. Words hardly do this piece justice, and TAFs invites fans to check out a nice collection of photographs, showing the sculpture from various angles, by clicking the link to Ponath's page. Once you reach his site, simply click the Terminator 3’ link and you'll be able to see what this masterpiece really looks like, up close! Born in Germany, Guido Ponath considers Arnold Schwarzenegger a key role model in his life, and credits him with inspiring him to move to America and pursue his dreams. Guido has been in the U.S. for just four years now, and spends his days carving everything from wildlife (the Arkansas razorback) to celebrities like the Oklahoma State University Pistol-Packing Pete and movie stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger! In an email interview with TAFs, Ponath writes: "Arnold Schwarzenegger has inspired me since I was a teenager. All my schoolbooks were filled with dreams about America, and Arnold was the perfect example of how to make it over here. I had a chance to meet him at the Grand Opening of "Planet Hollywood" in Berlin, 1996, and shook hands with a list of other Hollywood stars as well. As an artist I wanted to salute my idol by sculpting him in wood. I spent about two weeks with this sculpture. My dream would be that Arnold would sign my work and then auction it off for charity." TAFs would like to thank Guido and his wife Pamela for taking the time to communicate with us, and for their commitment to cutting edge artwork and Arnold!
