Hours before the courts delayed the October 7th recall election, Arnold and his wife Maria gave their first ever interview together as a couple. The Schwarzenshrivers were on The Oprah Winfrey show yesterday morning and Arnold told the talk show host what will happen to his movie career if elected Governor.

"Obviously I will not be able to do movies anymore because I will be busy for many many hours every day working on the mess that is out there in California. It will be a lot of work and a huge challenge. So my movie career I will have to put aside. But this is much more important to me now."

Naturally this is hard news to take from all of us Arnold film lovers who were anxiously awaiting King Conan and T4. However, at least Arnold will be happy going after his dreams. Let no one stand if front of Schwarzenegger and his goals. When Arnold is happy, we are happy.

Schwarzeneger's passion for Governor of California is undeniable. We would be proud if the greatest bodybuilder/action hero added Governor to his powerful resume. If and when Arnold is elected Governor, we can scratch off T4 with that big Arnold lead role, but who knows, maybe a few years later a King Conan is still foreseeable. Arnold will be 60 (about the same age as the elder king from the King Conan comics). No matter what The Oak does, he will be back.

Court Delays California Recall Election
A federal appeals court is postponing the California recall election, saying it's unacceptable that six counties would be using outdated voting machines. The 9th Circuit Court ruling came in the last of about a dozen legal challenges aimed at delaying or canceling the recall vote, which was scheduled for October 7.

The court ruled that the vote can't proceed as scheduled because some of the votes would be cast using outmoded punch-card ballot machines. In an unsigned opinion, the court said the use in some counties of the punch-card ballot system -- made infamous by the 2000 election in Florida -- is unacceptable.

"On October 7, 2003, California voters will be asked to cast a ballot on some of the most important issues facing the State, including an unprecedented vote on the recall of a governor," the court said. "However, 44 percent of the electorate will be forced to use a voting system so flawed that the Secretary of State has officially deemed it 'unacceptable' and banned its use in all future elections."

PRESS RELEASE
Schwarzenegger Statement on Ninth Circuit Court Ruling.
Arnold Schwarzenegger issued the following statement today regarding the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals decision regarding the date of the recall election:

"One million, six hundred thousand Californians of all political persuasions have signed petitions to recall Governor Gray Davis. The Secretary of State has certified that this election should go forth on October 7th. The California Supreme Court has also ruled that the election should go forward on October 7th.  I fully expect that the federal courts will come to the same conclusion.

Today, I call upon the Secretary of State to immediately appeal this decision on behalf of the citizens who have exercised their constitutional right to recall Gray Davis, and who expect an election on October 7th.

Historically, the courts have upheld the rights of voters, and I expect that the court will do so again in this case.

I will continue to vigorously campaign for governor. The people have spoken, and their word should and will prevail."
