Arnold Schwarzenegger and family had a wild action adventure on the South Fork of the American River during their rafting trip Saturday. On board are their kids and friends.

The Schwarzenshrivers braved the whitewater of the South Fork of the American River Saturday with local river guide Tom Freer. "It was a beautiful day," Freer said. "We had a blast."

Freer and staff from the American River Touring Association took the governor and his family, as well as some family friends and security, rafting from the Nugget Campground down to Folsom Lake. Three rafts made the 18-mile trek , Freer said.

"The first five or six miles are a lot of rapids so we were mostly running the river and focusing on the white water," he added. "I think that the governor and Maria were so happy to have some time off ... that they were taking advantage of the private time." The family spent a lot of time talking and laughing amongst themselves, Freer said. During the tough rapids, especially Troublemaker, Freer said he was really on his toes, making sure everyone was safe.

"We had a great time," he said. "It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me," Freer said. "It was an honor to have the governor on the river that is the lifeblood of our community."
