California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger was strong to the finish in a recent poll asking Americans which celebrity best depicts a modern day Popeye. According to a national Harris Interactive poll conducted in September 2004, 21 percent of those surveyed said the body-builder-turned-politician is the most appropriate celebrity for a modern day Popeye. Six-time Tour de France cycling champion Lance Armstrong and actor Jim Carrey tied for second place, each receiving 17 percent of the vote. The online poll, conducted for Allen Canning's Popeye Spinach, a leading canned spinach brand, surveyed more than 2,000 adults over the age of 18. The company conducted the poll to gauge consumer perceptions regarding Popeye and spinach as the world's most popular sailor man celebrates his 75th anniversary this year. ---------- |
