TheArnoldFans has a reliable inside source regarding T4's original script which was written even before T3 was out in theaters. This script might be a few years older but the outline was intended for T4 and was suppose to have been shot back-to-back with T3.
The following is a basic outline of how KICK ASS "TERMINATOR 4" COULD BE if they chose to stick with their original script written years ago.
My brother-in-law is a set photographer who has been in the business for years and my sister is a costume designer, nothing really interesting in the world of film but they do get to see a lot of stuff and talk to a lot of people.
My brother-in-law as I mentioned worked on Stallone and Vajna's JUDGE DREDD when it was filming in London and his best mate was a director of a small unit involving shooting crowd scenes etc. He got his taste for blockbuster type movies and since then has worked on many more including the HARRY POTTER movies. He was also scheduled to work on T3 not as a set photographer but as a photographer for potential locations (he did not do the job as the majority of the people he was scheduled to work with were involved in an aviation accident, he called a day on it as he did not want to tempt fate). Whilst doing this he was lucky enough to meet Mario Kassar ( not on his own but with a group) he got the big speech about how this was a return to form for his company, how they were part of something big...
and he also stated that the Terminator was going to be his premiere franchise and that they had T4 written along with T3 by the same writers. Both Terminator sequels were originally supposed to be shot back-to-back, but the massive budget and Kassars failure to get James Cameron back, put paid to this. T4 was supposed to be about Arnie's human character trapped in a life of total slavery along with his research team. Skynet forced them to invent the machine we all know and love. Arnie's character was then supposed to escape and help the resistance. The fact Arnie's character knew so much about Skynet and the machines ensured he was key to the survival of the human race making Connor quite redundant. It also brought into play that Arnie's character Terminator/scientist was the key figure central to both the destruction and survival of humans throughout the series.
My brother-in-law holds the T4 storyline/script in such high esteem that it is quite comical. You would think he had found a missing bible scripture.
So the question remains, did T3's writers embellish on the original awesome script or did they chose to start from scratch over the last two years? Time will tell... It it will tell SOON!
Special thanks to Goldengloves and his Brother-In-Law!
