Although TAFs went to the ComicCon and experienced tales of high adventure, we returned with the sad information of Mako's death. Just one day after the Conan the Barbarian tribute panel at the Con, Mako, who played our favorite Wizard, passed away.
Japanese-American actor Mako, who was Oscar-nominated for his supporting role in "The Sand Pebbles" and who co-founded the nation's first Asian-American theater company, died Friday of esophageal cancer at his home in Somis. He was 72.
Mako's character and classic narration played heavily into TheArnoldFans writing over nearly a decade. On many occasions we ended a news story with "...but that was another story" or "let me tell you a tale of high adventure!"
For the new WB film, TAFs even leaned this weekend that they were going to consider giving Mako a new narration part on the NEW FILM to somewhat tie these films together. Now, Mako's fire burns high towards the heavens. We do not cry for him; we honor him! Let us all watch Conan the Barbarian tonight and raise our classes to the man we will NEVER forget!
In an acting career spanning more than four decades, Mako appeared in TV series including "MASH," "I Spy," "Quincy" and "Frasier," as well as films ranging from "Conan the Barbarian" to "Seven Years in Tibet," "Pearl Harbor"
and last year's "Memoirs of a Geisha". Mako was next going to voice Splinter in the CG animated film.
