Schwarzenegger in Cameron's New Projects?

Popular website AINT-IT-COOL recently conducted a phone interview with legendary genius mastermind filmmaker James Cameron. Jim is the perfectionist behind such classics as THE TERMINATOR, ALIENS, THE ABYSS, TERMINATOR 2, TRUE LIES and TITANIC. The entire interview can be read at this link!

After reading that in-depth piece over at AICN, Arnold fans finally realize that TRUE LIES 2 won't ever happen! It's sad, but very true! Jim Cameron has 5 films he is very passionate about that he will direct back-to-back and a True Lies sequel got left in the dust. But rest assured Cameron's great friend and film collaborator Arnold Schwarzenegger will have a role in either AVATAR or BATTLE ANGEL ALITA.

According to aint-it-cool.com, the 5 Cameron films he's going to hit us with looks to be AVATAR, BATTLE ANGEL ALITA part 1,2,3 and DIVE… which will be a drama shot in and projected with the latest digital 3D technology according to Harry's website. When asked if Cameron's regular actor/moviestar friends --Schwarzenegger, Bill Paxton, Lance Henricksen, Michael Bien-- will be in AVATAR or ALITA, Jim's response was "I really hope so. Listen, I definitely have my favorites. If I've chosen to work with an actor once, it's probably with a good reason, but if I've worked with an actor a couple of times, I've stayed friends with them."

We can guess from that response that Arnold will be in one of them. My personal guess is BATTLE ANGEL ALITA playing the role of Ido, Alita's tough-as-nails creator. This would be a perfect role for Arnold. He's older yet still a total bad ass. I've asked many people that are fans of the Japanese magna if Arnold would do justice in that role and they've all said "YES"!!!

However, I could be wrong and Arnie will be in AVATAR. I doubt that he'll be in this film because the Austrian Oak might be making TERMINATOR 4 with Jonathan Mostow at that time or even KING CONAN a.k.a. CONAN THE CONQUEROR for the WB. According to Cameron, AVATAR or ALITA will be out summer 2007, so that means Schwarzenegger could have AVATAR/ALITA in 2007, TERMINATOR 4 summer 2008 and the next CONAN film that same year winter.

Could Tom Arnold finally be right for once in his life? He always claimed Cameron and Arnold would make TRUE LIES 2, but that isn't gonna happen. But Tom also claimed Cameron was writing Schwarzenegger's comeback film. So could he be right and it was AVATAR/ALITA he was referencing towards? Only time will tell, but we all have to remember that Arnie is a Cameron "regular" and Jim said "I hope so...I have my favorites."

In other news, Cameron says he is working on T2 again. Jim let loose some info regarding his new techniques for his next TERMINATOR 2 dvd release, AVATAR and BATTLE ANGEL ALITA. "A lot also has to do with the technology being developed at the studios, whichever film goes first will mark the debut of his new high frame rate, next-generation 3D 'Fusion Camera'. The technology, along with its home entertainment equivalent, is already developed and being put into use in practical applications ranging from Mars missions to filming a U2 concert. Cameron's already at work on applying the technology to redo some of his older classics like "Terminator 2" and "Titanic" and will also be using it on his recently locked "Dive" project.

Will Arnold and Jim bring new stuff to the latest release of T2? Will Arnold and Jim finally announce a release date for the long awaited TRUE LIES Special Edition --the only Cameron film without one--? Will Arnold and Jim finally re-team for another feature length film? Hopefully the answer to all these questions are YES!
